Idioms and expressions with wish

As you wish

This is an expression used for telling someone that they can do whatever they want.

• ‘Can I stay for another day?’ ‘Of course, as you wish.’
  

I wish

This expression is used for telling someone what you want them to do.

• I wish she would mind her own business.
• I wish you would stop talking about your problems!
  

‘I wish’ is also used for saying that something is not true, although you would be very happy if it were true.

• ‘Did you get that promotion?’ ‘I wish!’ (= I didn’t get that promotion, but I would have been very happy if I had got it.)
  

Not wish something on anybody / not wish something on your worst enemy

      The Ministry of Human Resource Development has designed an education helpline named ‘Sakshat’. It is perceived to be a single stop education portal for addressing the needs of students, scholars, teachers and life long learners. It is a free portal launched by the Hon’ble President of India on 30th October 2006.

    CBSE has joined this unique endevour to facilitate particularly Class XI and XII students. The portal is fully interactive from 26th January 2007. Students can make one to one interactions with subject experts selected by the MHRD and CBSE. These experts can be contacted for guidance in the following subjects on all days between 5.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.:

1. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology
2. Accountancy, Business Studies
3. English Core and Functional English

  മുല്ലപ്പെരിയാർ ഡാമിന്റെ അഞ്ച് കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ചുറ്റളവില്‍ റിക്ടര്‍ സ്‌­കെയിലില്‍ 4-ന് മുകളില്‍ ഉണ്ടാകാവുന്ന ഭൂചലനം ഡാമിന് ഗുരുതര ഭീഷണിയാണെന്ന് അന്തര്‍ സംസ്ഥാന ജല ഉപദേശക സമിതി അം­ഗമാ­യ റി­ട്ട. ചീ­ഫ് എ­ഞ്ചി­നീ­യര്‍ എം. ശ­ശി­ധ­രന്‍ മന്ത്രി പി.ജെ. ജോ­സ­ഫി­നു നൽകിയ റിപ്പോർട്ടിൽ പരാമര്‍ശമുണ്ട്. ജൂലായ് 26-ന് 3.8-ഉം നവംബര്‍ 18-ന് 3.4-ഉം തീവ്രതയുള്ള ഭൂചലനങ്ങളാണ് ഇടുക്കിയിലുണ്ടായത്. ഇത് മുല്ലപ്പെരിയാര്‍ ഡാമില്‍ പുതിയ വിള്ളലും ചോര്‍ച്ചയും സൃഷ്ടിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. റിക്ടര്‍ സ്‌­കെയിലില്‍ 6.5 വരെയുള്ള ഭൂചലനം ഇടുക്കി ജില്ലയില്‍ പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കാമെന്ന് സെസിലെ മുതിര്‍ന്ന ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞന്‍ ഡോ. ജോണ്‍ മത്തായി വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ജൂലായ് 26ന് ശേഷം മുല്ലപ്പെരിയാറിന്റെ സമീപപ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ 22 തവണ ഭൂചലനമുണ്ടായി.

ഇടുക്കി ജില്ലയിൽ മുല്ലപ്പെരിയാറിന്റെ താഴെ പെരിയാറിന്റെ തീരത്തു തന്നെ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഉപ്പുതറ എന്ന കൊച്ചു കുടിയേറ്റ ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ ഏക സ്കൂളിലെ ഹൈസ്കൂൾ വിഭാഗം ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് അധ്യാപകൻ ആയി ഈവർഷം നിയമിതനായപ്പോൾ മാത്രമാണ് എനിക്ക് മുല്ലപ്പെരിയാർ എന്ന 'പ്രശ്‌നവും' അതുയർത്തുന്ന ഭീഷണികളും 'ശരിക്കും' മനസ്സിലായത്. ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്ന സ്ഥലവും യാത്ര ചെയ്യുന്ന സ്ഥലങ്ങളും ഏതു നിമിഷവും
ഒലിച്ചു പോകാം എന്ന യാഥാർത്ഥ്യം.... അതിന്റെ ഭീകരത.... എന്തിന് ഞാൻ താമസിക്കുന്ന കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ എരുമേലി പോലും സുരക്ഷിതമല്ല എന്ന തിരിച്ചറിവ്. ഞാൻ പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കുട്ടികളും എന്റെ സഹപ്രവർത്തകരും ഒന്നും സുരക്ഷിതരല്ല എന്ന ഭയാനക സത്യം. ഇനിയെന്തെഴുതണം എന്നറിയില്ല..... ഡിസാസ്റ്റർ മാനേജ്മെന്റ് പ്ലാനുകൾ എന്തെങ്കിലും അറിയാമായിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ സാധാരണക്കാരിലേക്കും കുട്ടികളിലേയ്ക്കും എത്തിക്കാമായിരുന്നു... സഹായിക്കാമോ... കൂടുതലായി ചേർക്കേണ്ടവയെപ്പറ്റി അറിയിക്കാമോ ? ഇനി ഞാൻ എന്താണ് ചെയ്യേണ്ടത് ?
