           എന്റെ ഹാർഡ് ഡിസ്ക് ബോർഡ് കംപ്ലൈന്റ്റ്‌ ആയതു കൊണ്ട് അതിലെ ഒന്നും ഉപയോഗിക്കുവാൻ കഴിയുന്നില്ല. മറ്റൊരു ബാക്ക് അപ്പും എനിക്കില്ല താനും. പേടിക്കേണ്ട കാര്യമില്ലല്ലോ... എല്ലാം ബ്ലോഗിൽ അപ്പ്‌ ലോഡ് ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ എന്ന് വിശ്വസിച്ചിരുന്നു. പത്താം ക്ലാസിന് തിങ്കളാഴ്ച പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന പരീക്ഷയ്ക്കായി Revision Test Series ഇന്ന് തുറന്നു നോക്കിയപ്പോൾ ഞെട്ടി പോയി. മുഴുവൻ വെട്ടി നശിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു !!!!

           ഒന്നുകിൽ അറിവില്ലായ്മ കൊണ്ട് പറ്റിയ അബദ്ധമാവാം അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വല്ല കുട്ടികളും കാട്ടിയ സാമൂഹിക വിരുദ്ധതയാവാം. കാരണം എന്തായാലും ഇതിന്റെ പിന്നിൽ കഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടവരുടെ വേദന ഒന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കുക...

            നാട്ടിലെ സ്കൂളിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്നതിനാൽ അദ്ധ്യാപനം കൂടാതെ സ്കൂളിലെ മറ്റ് പല എക്സ്ട്രാ ജോലികളും ചെയ്തിട്ട് വന്ന് കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ സമയം കൂടി കവർന്ന് ചില അവസരങ്ങളിൽ അർദ്ധരാത്രി വരെയൊക്കെ ഇരുന്നു തയ്യാറാക്കിയവയാണ് ഒട്ടു മിക്ക നോട്ടുകളും. അയച്ചു കിട്ടുന്നവയാണ്‌ ഭൂരിപക്ഷമെങ്കിലും മണിക്കൂറുകൾ മിനക്കെട്ടാണ് അവയെ പബ്ലിഷ് ചെയ്യാവുന്ന പരുവത്തിലാക്കിയെടുക്കുന്നത്. ആ അധ്വാനമാണ് ചിലരുടെ അറിവില്ലായ്മയോ അഹങ്കാരമോ കാരണം പാഴായിപ്പോകുന്നത്.

The capacity of the Hard Disc is 320 GB. Such hard discs are rare now and are not available in the market as per my understanding. A great Cheat-Sheet for mastering English Tense

Dear Teachers,
                   I think it would be nice if we could include a "learn grammar" link on our site's home page, alongside the links for various classes. You sure must have seen sites like englishpage.com.

                    I think there is no point in having separate packages for bright and weak students. If our idea is to keep things simple, why split it into easy and hard? Everything gets a bit harder as we move along; we should just focus on getting the basics right. A more practical approach, I think, would be to have separate material for UP, HS and HSS.

              I'm sending you, for your feedback, a pdf of a cheat-sheet I prepared for explaining English tense to my students. (The title is intentionally flashy; the kids do hate tense and grammar, after all ;-)  When I attempted teaching tense, I found it nearly impossible to sustain their interest and attention as I explained the 12 tenses individually.

                 So I tried an alternate method - first I would explain the three SIMPLE TENSES in one go, and then introduce the rest of the tenses as the THREE ASPECTS. I have found it to be a more intuitive way to explain tenses. I just tell them that one aspect is for actions in a complete state (PERFECT), another for actions in an incomplete state (PROGRESSIVE) and the third for actions in a prolonged state of continuity (PERFECT PROGRESSIVE). I found it better to avoid the term continous tense, because students tend to confuse it with the perfect continuous tense which actually shows continuity.

                         I could explain it all in an hour, without having to write down the "Subj.+ aux + verb + @#$!... "  formulas for each. I put all these points down on print and give them photocopies. I added quiet a few sample sentences for each tense to illustrate my point. The students tend to grasp the idea better using this method. Then I included other things like irregular verbs and Auxiliaries. Then added a reference chart for passive voice and interrogative sentences, on the last page.

                  It's a bit confusing to the uninitiated learner. But after a few weeks of refering back to it in between regular lessons, they would get the idea and then, each item on the cheat sheet would become handy as a memory aid and reference chart. At least, I hope so.

Please tell others about English Blog

Dear Sir / Madam / Parents / Students,

           English Blog was started on 5th September 2011. Since then English Blog has been providing study materials for Kerala Syllabus classes 5,6,7,8,9,10,11 and 12. We have also tried to include materials for Std. 1,2,3 and 4 (though not successful). We were one of the first of educational blogs that published SCERT First Term and Second Term question bank in 2011. SCERT First Term question bank was password protected yet we made it available for the general public when the time of secrecy was over. Thus we started providing study materials for Kerala Syllabus Malayalam, Hindi, Social Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths and I.T.other than English.

           It is 2 years and 8 months now..... What made me write this post is the surprising fact that 95% of the English Teachers of our state do not know that there exists such a blog for their help. I realised this when I went to the valuation camp at Kottayam, this year. There were around 200 teachers there but not more than 15 knew about English Blog !!!!!!!!! From a person who visited all the valuation camps I came to know that English Blog is popular in some northern districts like Malappuram and Palakkad.. From the rest of the districts very few enquired about it. 

          What adds to my surprise is the reality that if an English teacher searches something related to any of the chapters in our English Texts, the Google will display English Blog in the first 10 search results. This being the fact if there are a huge number of English teachers who do not know about the existence of such a blog for them. That means, either they don't search for materials in the internet or they are indifferent to such a blog. 

           Then the question arises... Who are we blogging for ? What is the use of running such a blog spending money from my pocket ?

പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട അദ്ധ്യാപകരെ, രക്ഷകർത്താക്കളെ,
                                            കേരളത്തിലെ ഗവണ്‍മെന്റ് / എയ്ഡഡ പൊതു വിദ്യാലയങ്ങളിൽ പതിറ്റാണ്ടുകളായി ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് പഠിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നത് Physical Science / Maths /  Social Science / Natural Science അദ്ധ്യാപകരായിരുന്നു. ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് ബിരുദധാരികൾ തന്നെ ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് പഠിപ്പിക്കണം എന്ന ആവശ്യം ആയിരത്തിതൊള്ളായിരത്തി എണ്‍പതുകളിലും തൊണ്ണൂറുകളിലും പൊതുജനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് ഉയർന്നു വന്നതിന്റെ ഫലമായി 1996-1998 കാലത്ത് ഇത് സംബന്ധിച്ച് നടപടികൾക്ക് സർക്കാർ തുടക്കമിടുകയും 2002 ജനുവരി ഏഴാം തീയതി മുതൽ പ്രാബല്യത്തിൽ വരത്തക്ക വിധം 

1. HSA English തസ്തിക സൃഷ്ടിക്കുകയും
2. ഇംഗ്ലിഷിനെ ഭാഷാ വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ അവസാനത്തേതായി ചേർക്കുകയും
3. HSA English shall be sanctioned on the basis of periods of work

എന്നൊക്കെ ചേർത്ത് KER അമന്റ് ചെയ്യും എന്നറിയിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്‌ ഗസറ്റ്‌ നോട്ടിഫിക്കേഷൻ നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. (അത് ഡൌണ്‍ലോഡ് ചെയ്യുവാൻ ഇവിടെ ക്ലിക്ക് ചെയ്യുക). പക്ഷെ KER അമന്റ് ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടില്ല. ചെയ്തത് Kerala English Language Teacher's Association കോടതിയിൽ പോയ ശേഷം 2014-ൽ മാത്രം (കാരണം ഇന്നും നിഗൂഡം  ! )
      2002 ൽ G. O.(M.S.) 11/2002 dated 07.01.2002 (ഈ ഉത്തരവ് ഡൌണ്‍ലോഡ് ചെയ്യുവാൻ ഇവിടെ ക്ലിക്ക് ചെയ്യുക) പ്രകാരം HSA English തസ്തിക സൃഷ്ടിച്ച സർക്കാർ Maths, Social Science വിഷയങ്ങളുടെ രണ്ടാം പോസ്റ്റ് എടുത്ത് ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് പോസ്റ്റ്‌ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചതുകൊണ്ട് Core Subject അധ്യാപകർക്ക് വളരെയധികം ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾ ഉണ്ടായി.
      ഒരു ഫുൾ റ്റൈം ഭാഷാ അദ്ധ്യാപകൻ 15  periods എടുക്കുമ്പോൾ ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് അദ്ധ്യാപകൻ 35-40 periods എടുക്കേണ്ടി വരുന്നു. ഭാഷാ അദ്ധ്യാപകർക്ക് 30 പീരീഡിന് സെക്കന്റ്‌ പോസ്റ്റ്‌ സൃഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെടും. എന്നാൽ ഇംഗ്ലിഷിനു 45 പീരീഡ്‌ ആകുമ്പോൾ മാത്രമേ സെക്കന്റ്‌ പോസ്റ്റ് വരികയുള്ളൂ. 5 ഡിവിഷനുകൾ ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ മാത്രമേ HSA English തസ്തിക സൃഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെടുകയുള്ളൂ എന്ന് ഈ ഉത്തരവിൽ പറയുന്നതിനാൽ ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് അധ്യാപകരുടെ സേവനം ലഭ്യമല്ലാത്ത സ്കൂളുകൾ ഇന്നും ധാരാളമാണ്. 5-മത്തെ ഡിവിഷൻ നഷ്ടപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ ജോലി പോവുകയോ സ്ഥലം മാറ്റപ്പെടുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്ന ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് അധ്യാപകരുടെ എണ്ണം വർദ്ധിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

      ഇതിനെതിരെ പ്രതികരിക്കാനായി 14 ജില്ലകളിൽ നിന്നും ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് അദ്ധ്യാപകർ ഒത്തു ചേർന്ന് കക്ഷി രാഷ്ട്രീയ സംഘടനാ ഭേദമില്ലാതെ KELTA (Kerala English Language Teacher's Association) ക്ക് രൂപം കൊടുത്തു ഹൈക്കോടതിയിൽ കേസ് നടത്തുന്നതിനിടയിൽ രേഖകൾ തിരയുമ്പോൾ ആണ്  11 വർഷം സർക്കാർ ലൈബ്രറിയിൽ  ഉറങ്ങിക്കിടന്ന ഈ ഗസറ്റ് നോട്ടിഫിക്കേഷൻ കണ്ടെത്തിയത്.

      06.06.2003 ലെ G.O. (P) 149/2003 പ്രകാരം ഇംഗ്ലിഷിനെ language ഗ്രൂപ്പിൽ പെടുത്തണമെന്നും KER അമന്റ് ചെയ്യണം എന്നും ഉള്ള നമ്മുടെ നിവേദനങ്ങൾ പരിഗണിക്കപ്പെടാതെ വന്നപ്പോൾ നാം ഹൈക്കോടതിയിൽ WP (C) 18586/12 എന്ന Writ ഫയൽ ചെയ്തു. കോടതിയുടെ നിർദ്ദേശപ്രകാരം 2014-ൽ KER അമന്റ് ചെയ്ത് ഇംഗ്ലിഷിനെ language ഗ്രൂപ്പിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തി. ഈ ഉത്തരവ് പറയുന്നത് The post of HSA English shall be sanctioned on the basis of periods allocated to English. This rule shall be implemented on a phased manner without causing retrenchment of HSA core subjects as on 07.01.2002 എന്നാണ്. അതായത് 07.01.2002 ലെ ഓഡർ അസാധുവാണ്. അസാധുവായ ഈ നിയമപ്രകാരം ഇപ്പോഴും അദ്ധ്യാപക തസ്തിക നിർണ്ണയം നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. 06.06.2003 -ലെ ഓഡർ നടപ്പാക്കി കിട്ടുന്നതിന് നാം വീണ്ടും ഹൈക്കോടതിയെ സമീപിക്കേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. അദ്ധ്യാപക ബാങ്കും ജോലി സ്ഥിരതയും ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും പലരും അടിസ്ഥാന ശമ്പളം മാത്രം വാങ്ങി പല ജില്ലകളിലായി കറങ്ങി നടക്കേണ്ടി വരുന്നത് നാം കാണുന്നുണ്ട്. നമ്മുടെ സുരക്ഷ ഉറപ്പാക്കേണ്ടതും, ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് അദ്ധ്യാപനം മെച്ചപ്പെടുത്തേണ്ടതും English Club, English Fest, English Blog എന്നിവ കാര്യക്ഷമമാക്കേണ്ടതും പൊതു വിദ്യാഭ്യാസമേഖലയെ സംരക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതും നമ്മുടെ ബാധ്യതയാണ്.

To make reading and writing easy for beginners

To make reading and writing easy for beginners

→ Start with 3 letter words - rhyming words are more preferred.

Eg. cat, rat, pat , pot, cot, lot etc.

→ Give an idea about vowels and how they help in changing sounds like “a” is used as “aa” in Malayalam, “e” is used for “ottappulli”, and so on for all vowels.

→ Give several examples, display them in charts. Highlight the vowels with different colours.

Part, mark, fan,

Set, bed, pen

Charts like this should be prepared for all vowels.

→ After giving lot of reading and writing practices, ask them to find such words in their text books or news papers or comics, and let them note it down.

→ Write small stories and sentences for these children and give reading practices.

To make them speak

→ Teacher should talk very simple sentence frequently, not only in English periods, but in other periods too, when the situation is suitable.

Eg: How are you? Shall we start, let’s sing, I am tired, who is absent etc.

→ Talk about favourite things.

Eg: I like paayasam. It is very sweet.

My mother gave me a blue dress. It has pink buttons.

Ravi likes bike. He rides very fast.

I went to the beach. I played in the water.

→ After giving such examples, ask them to speak about their favourite things. Teacher should boost their confidence by giving scaffolding and encouragements like claps. They may not speak initially, then ask them to write down their ideas and read.

To make them write

→ Start with small sentences. Here too teacher’s version is used first.

Show them some object and describe it.

Eg: This is a small flower. This is red in colour. It has five petals.

Ask a student to stand and describe him/her.

This is Sonu. He is a tall boy. He is wearing black sandals.

This kind of practices will show some result within 2 months. Teacher should be very patient. Can’t expect a leap in a short time.

      I am a Primary School Teacher from Palakkad. Even our 10th standard students find it difficult to frame a meaningful sentence, neither are they confident to express their ideas in English.

    I wish our primary teachers try to make students familiar with simple sentence formation. This will boost their confidence in writing about simple topics like tree, food, pond etc. I hope this attempt will strengthen the foundation and the student will be able to communicate well in English by the time he finishes 10th.

     I am a part of English Blog by contributing learning materials for primary classes. Instead of focusing more on textbooks, I wish to encourage children in writing about familiar topics in their own simple sentences. These are some samples. Please go through them and feel free to express your opinion. I wish more teachers from LP school join English Blog and share.

        "Niravu" is a project of Alappuzha District Panchayat to help the Kerala S.S.L.C. students.  They have been successful with "Vazhivettam" in 2009-10 and "Niravu" in 2010 - 11. Niravu 2012 is a follow-up of the same. It is a collection of Kerala S.S.L.C. worksheets and their answers prepared by teachers from various schools under the leadership of D.I.E.T., Alappuzha. (Thanks to those teachers behind this endeavor and to Mathew Mullamchira for bringing it into our notice.)
